First watering since repot
First watering since the 2026-08-09 repot, four days after potting dry. Bottom-soaked only – wooly spine covering stays dry. Pipette top-up on the surface grit. Distilled water.
Repotted into 6cm terracotta with 1:2:1:1 mineral mix
Observed: Roots healthy - light, fine, no dark or mushy sections. Old peaty nursery mix cleared by hand, no water used, given the wooly spine covering can't tolerate top moisture.
Mix: 1 part Gardners cactus substrate : 2 parts pumice 3-7mm : 1 part lava 3-5mm : 1 part zeolite 1-2.5mm, roughly 80% mineral grit. Lava top dressing.
Done: Potted dry into 6cm terracotta. No water on potting day. Given same-genus desiccation history (Diego), holding only 3-4 days before a light bottom-soak, rather than a longer dry stretch.
Acquired - promoted from wishlist, mix designed
Acquired today from the same Obi Letnany run as the Echinopsis ancistrophora. Currently in a 5.5cm nursery pot. No pet name yet. Promoted from wishlist to active.
Mix (per 6cm terracotta, confirmed target repot pot):
- Gardners cactus substrate - 1 part
- Pumice 3-7mm - 2 parts
- Lava 3-5mm - 1 part
- Zeolite 1-2.5mm - 1 part
~80% mineral grit, matching the 70-80% Mammillaria genus norm.
Repot on hold until zeolite is acquired - planned for Monday, or sooner if found tomorrow.
Same genus as Diego (Mammillaria bombycina), lost to desiccation in an all-peat mix. Extra monitoring planned for this one.
