Not a bone-dry cutting - sedum cuttings root better with some consistent light moisture than fully dried out. Hold a few days for the fresh-cut surfaces to close, then light watering roughly every 2 weeks while rooting, moderate not soaked. Move to a bone-dry cycle once established.

Watering interval set for the rooting phase

wateringIntervalDays set to 14, unlike the fully bone-dry hold used for jade cuttings. Grower sources on Sedum morganianum/burrito propagation recommend light, moderate watering roughly every 2 weeks during rooting rather than withholding water entirely - the cuttings root better with some consistent moisture than fully dried out, as long as it isn't oversaturated. First watering held a few days for the fresh-cut surfaces to close first.

Acquired from a friend, etiolated cuttings divided and potted

Acquired: from a friend who no longer wanted it. Etiolated pieces that had dropped many leaves, several of which were already forming plantlets.

Done: some stems cut in half, bottom leaves cleared, planted into the mix. Some stems already had mini roots from the friend. No water.

Mix: same as Pippin's.

  • Gardners cactus substrate – 2 parts
  • Lava 3-5mm – 1 part
  • White quartz grit – 1 part
  • Zeolite 1-2.5mm – 1 part

Setup: 10cm shallow terracotta. Quartz also top-dressed.
