Method: Bottom soak plus pipette top-up from above, ~75 ml. Same method as 08-09.
Interval note: Bone dry exactly on schedule at day 8. The 8 day interval is reading correctly. No change.
Observed: Body deep green and evenly turgid, no ribbing collapse or shriveling. Radial spines white to straw, intact, areoles clean and woolly. No discoloration, soft spots, or scarring at the base. Sits well within the 3.5cm pot with room to spare – no repot needed. Gritty mix surface dry, top dressing clean with no salt crusting.
Watering – bottom soak + pipette top-up
Observed: Bone dry for a week or more before this watering – no visible stress from the wait.
Done: Bottom-watered (soak, full drain before return to tray). Followed with a pipette of water applied directly to the top surface grit, avoiding the crown – capillary action is too low in this gritty mix for a bottom soak alone to wet the surface layer.
Watch: This is a single reading, not a trend. If the 3.5cm pot keeps drying out well before the 8-day mark on future waterings, revisit wateringIntervalDays then.
First post-repot watering (day 3)
First light water on day 3 post-repot, within the planned 3–4 day window. Soak method, full drain before returning to tray.
Acquired + immediate repot
Acquired alongside Pedro Tropipascal. Came in peat-only nursery soil; peat stuck at the base during uprooting. Washed peat off – roots wet, needed drying.
At 3.5cm pot, drying window shortened to ~24h; no-water period after potting: 3–4 days.
Mix review: mineral-dominant and suitable, but original grit was oversized – sieved down to 1–3mm for the pot body.
First attempt came out off-center with exposed surface roots – lifted, recentered. Final: centered, flare on surface, zeolite top dressing tucked under lowest areoles.
Confirmed: zeolite works as top dressing; vulnerable point is the root collar, not the crown.
